Strangers Become Family

Families travel to RMH from nearby towns, cities across the US and countries around the globe. They leave their home and journey to Connecticut seeking treatment not available in their own community. They are families in a strange place and occasionally surrounded by a language that is not their own.

When they arrive at RMH, it immediately feels like home. They join a tight group of families living together that all have one thing in common – a critically ill child. They share common fears, experiences and hope. They celebrate the good days and support each other through tough times. Together, they make each other stronger and create a support system that makes sure no one ever feels alone.

The dining room and kitchen are truly the heart of the House. Families come together to cook, talk, play games, share stories and give support to one another. They come together to prepare authentic dishes from their culture and country. By sharing a little piece of their home and traditions, they deepen the bond between them. They show appreciation & gratitude to the volunteers and staff that they have come to rely on, by inviting them to a prepared lunch or dinner. Food is a universal language - and at RMH of CT, that language is love. RMH gives families strength and the feeling of community - living together and helping each other get through each day with love.
