Mission Statement

The Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut is a "home away from home" primarily for families of children who are being treated at nearby hospitals and other healthcare facilities.

House Honors Volunteers

“Hi. I’m a Monday!”
“Glad to meet you. I’m a Friday.”

This is how many volunteers introduced themselves at one of the annual volunteer appreciation receptions. The introductions refer to the days that House volunteers serve their three-hour shifts, answering phones, admitting new families, and helping out as needed from 9 in the morning until 9 at night, seven days a week.

The annual recognition event offers a rare time when all volunteers and staff can get together, providing a chance to make new friends or catch up with old ones. In addition to 52 House volunteers, 25 others serve as members of the board of directors, special events volunteers, fundraisers,
etc. Organizing and scheduling this large crew of volunteers is a challenge which Janet Hanscom, Manager of House Operations, eagerly meets. “I love it when our families leave a message in our guestbook remarking how much our volunteers touched their lives. It reminds me how powerful the human spirit really is,” notes Hanscom.

Hanscom continually expresses her gratitude to volunteers. “We are truly grateful for the continued support we get from our volunteers. The gift given is beyond measure. We embrace all the new faces who have joined our extended family during the past year. Heartfelt thanks to all who help make our mission possible.”
