Winter Champions for the House
Guests Run for House
Maui (left) and Gianfranco (right), recent House Guests, ran in Bernadette’s Kids Dash in the 3rd Annual East Rock Challenge in September and enjoyed another opportunity to visit with their friend, Ronald.
Schools and Student Organizations...
Students continue to amaze us with their fundraising prowess!
- A group of 11 special education students in grades 4 and 5 from the Thomas Hooker School in Bridgeport hosted a series of fundraisers netting $1,186.
- RMH Volunteer Marianne Metcalf helped the McGee Middle School in Berlin host a concert raising $1,800.
- Marketing students from Amity High School staged a student/faculty basketball game raising $200 and also shot a video commercial at the House.
- Mike Rohde and Claire DiMartino made a trip to Madison, CT, to thank the Island Avenue Elementary School for their schoolwide effort which raised $2,400. Thank you, kids!
The United Way Day of Caring...
The House received quite a facelift during the fall! The United Way Day of Caring brought a crew from H. Pearce Realtors who cleaned up the yard, did repairs around the House, and straightened out the storage closets.
The Fairfield Chapter of the International Association of Home Staging Professionals...
renovated eight guest rooms and redid the conference room, with help from Bed Bath & Beyond and Homestore. A generous grant from the Ronald McDonald House Charities allowed us to have the exterior of the House painted in our signature yellow color and to replace most of the windows. Board member Michael Ghadimian coordinated the project.
Wal-Mart presented us with a check for $5,000...
as part of their celebration of the grand reopening of the New Haven store. The Nationwide Insurance Foundation and the Nationwide New England Regional Office made a combined donation of $10,000.
Sue La Fleur, manager of the Glastonbury McDonald’s...
hosted a cruise night and raffle, raising $552 to benefit the House, and the Meriden McDonald’s donated $250 in conjunction with their grand re-opening.
The Westfield Meriden Mall and the Westfield Connecticut Post Mall
in Milford displayed Ronald McDonald playhouses and provide fundraising opportunities for students throughout the holiday season. Playhouses will be auctioned on eBay in December.
The Connecticut Clay Shooting Championships...
raised $1,500 for the House. Our annual Fourth of July Carousel Day at Lenny & Joe’s Fishtale Restaurant raised $467.
Long Wharf Theater in New Haven...
has offered free tickets to opening night performances for guests and volunteers.
The Omni Hotel in New Haven...
has provided us with an ample supply of personal size toiletries for guests. The Omni is sponsoring a tree at Trees of Hope and one in the hotel as part of our new Satellite Tree program.
The Greater New Haven Realtors...
have adopted one of the guest bedrooms and the dining room has been adopted in memory of long-term Board member and McDonald’s owner/operator Andy Santacroce. A memorial gathering for family and friends was held at the House in August.
A partnership with Borders Book Stores...
has benefited not only the Ronald McDonald House of Connecticut, but early learning centers as well. A month-long book drive at Borders Book Stores in the state exceeded all
expectations by generating a very enthusiastic response from shoppers. The book drive will continue in 2008.
