Mission

• To provide a “home-away-from-home” primarily for the families of children who are being treated at nearby healthcare facilities

History

Ronald McDonald House Charities and McDonald’s owner/operators provided generous capital and operating fund assistance during our formative years

• 1979 Planning began to establish Connecticut’s only Ronald McDonald House
• 1981 The former Blakeslee Mansion (built circa 1837) at 501 George Street in New Haven was purchased and a $1,300,000 restoration began
• 1985 The House opened for guests in May
• 1999 Room expansion and renovations completed ($900,000)

Operations

• Independent, private, non-profit, tax-exempt organization owned and governed by a local board of directors comprised of 21 members
• One of 154 Ronald McDonald Houses throughout the U.S.
• Generates operating income from individual donors, organizations and special events; McDonald's restaurants and Ronald McDonald House Charities also provide assistance
• Annual operating budget exceeds $500,000

Staff and Volunteers

• Employs two full-time and two part-time staff members
• Utilizes 75 volunteers who provide crucial assistance for house operations and fundraising

Facilities

• 35 rooms include private and common spaces for families
• 12 guest bedrooms and 8 bathrooms
• 2 fully-equipped kitchens, pantry and laundry room
• Library, play room, TV and computer lounge, sun porch and living room
• Conference room and offices
• Secured parking lot

Who We Serve

• Families whose children are receiving medical treatment from eleven area medical facilities
• Serves over 500 families yearly
• Has served more than 7,500 families from 125 Connecticut communities, 43 states, and 36 countries
